AHS COVERS THE BASICS.
OUR DONORS TAKE CARE OF THE REST.

Pilgrims Hospice Society is an independent, non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of donors to provide exceptional end-of-life care for all. As a contracted service provider for Alberta Health Services (AHS), we receive funding that covers only 40% of our annual operating budget — enough to provide a base level of care for our hospice residents.

WE BELIEVE INDIVIDUALS AT THE END OF LIFE DESERVE CARE THAT IS MORE THAN BASIC.

We fundraise to cover the remaining 60% of our budget and to provide the enhanced level of care and complementary services that our hospice is known for. Donations make it possible for us to provide exceptional hospice care, grief support programs and spiritual care free of charge (services that can cost up to $8,500 per resident on average).

ALBERTA HEALTH SERVICES

The funding we receive from AHS covers only 40% of our annual operating budget, which helps to pay for:

  • Base Levels of Staffing
  • Basic Supplies (e.g., daily nursing supplies for medication administration, wound care, personal care, personal protective equipment)

YOUR DONATIONS

We raise the remaining 60% of our budget through fundraising. This enables us to elevate the care we provide with:

Enhanced Staffing for around-the-clock care

Specialized Equipment and Supplies for the comfort and well-being of our residents (e.g., hospice cuddle beds, medication pumps, patient transfer equipment, Broda chairs)

Specialized Staff, including:

  • Resident and Family Liaison who provides individualized care and attention to every resident and family
  • Interdisciplinary Practice Lead who directs quality improvement initiatives and standards of excellence in our nursing care

Soup, Snacks and Beverages for visiting family and friends

Resident and family holiday celebrations

Grief Support for adults, teens, children and families

Spiritual Care for residents and their loved ones

Ongoing Staff and Volunteer Education and Training, Community Education and Efficient Donation Management to ensure the sustainability of our hospice

Laundry and Housekeeping, Maintenance, Safety and Security to keep our hospice safe and clean

Accounting, Human Resources, Office Equipment, Insurance and other business services that ensure our proper and efficient management

Utilities such as natural gas, electricity, water, cable, telephone and internet that keep our residents and their families comfortable and connected
