Pilgrims Hospice Society is pleased to announce that effective May 6, 2024, we have become a contracted service provider for hospice care with Alberta Health Services (AHS).

This agreement comes 18 months into a project in which we shared information on our unique model of care to help inform the government’s assessment of hospice care models across the province. The Government of Alberta provided a one-year grant of $2.5 million in 2022, and a second $2.5 million and grant extension in 2023, to fund that project and support the delivery of 24/7 hospice palliative care at the Roozen Family Hospice Centre.

Now, as a contracted service provider, Pilgrims Hospice Society is assured funding from AHS for at least the next three years. While this funding provides a measure of stability to our bottom line, it’s the generosity of our donors and volunteers that enables us to provide the level of care and compassion that our hospice is known for.

“To have Alberta Health interested in partnering with us and providing ongoing funding is a validation of the value our unique model of end-of-life care has in our community,” said Monica Robson, Pilgrims Hospice Society CEO. “That funding, along with the ongoing support of a growing community of donors and volunteers, will enable us to continue to provide hospice care and supportive wraparound programming free of charge.”
