Here at the Roozen Family Hospice Centre, dedicated staff and volunteers do everything they can to make life as enjoyable as possible for our residents. The use of special equipment can help residents who would otherwise be bedbound to take part in activities outside of their rooms, adding to their sense of independence and wellbeing.

Broda chairs, for example, meet the physical needs of residents who are unable to sit in a wheelchair, offering well-supported comfort and enabling them to join others in the Great Room, to share a special meal or celebration with loved ones in the Private Family Dining Room, or to venture outdoors to enjoy fresh air and sunshine in the summer. Jeff shares:

“My room is my universe, so it’s nice to be mobile and see different sights. The Broda chair helps me take part in other things, such as seeing musicians perform and interacting with the community here, reducing any sense of isolation that staying in my room might bring. The Broda chair is so comfortable it’s like floating on a cloud! It’s also easy to maneuver for my wife, so we can have special times together without the need of staff or volunteers, such as doing a puzzle together downstairs.”

Special thanks to Edmonton Community Foundation for helping Pilgrims purchase essential equipment through a Community Grant awarded in 2021 – giving hospice residents the best quality of life, and helping staff deliver the best possible care.
