We’re delighted our 2018 year-end appeal (including Giving Tuesday) raised over $32,000 towards Hospice Home Visits. The generosity of our supporters is heartwarming, and truly helps the growing numbers in our community needing someone to share their hopes, dreams, worries and fears with as they near the end of life.

What makes the Hospice Home Visiting Program (previously known as Compassionate Companions) work so well?

• Our Program Manager meets with each client to understand his or her unique interests and needs, and then carefully identifies a suitable volunteer match.
• Each volunteer completes 24 hours of specialized hospice training, including how to be a skilled listener, before visiting in the community.
• Volunteers are supported through ongoing training, monthly debriefing sessions and regular communication with our Program Manager.
• Weekly visits allow meaningful relationships to form, built on a foundation of respect and trust.

Funding from our appeals allow us to offer free hospice training to our volunteers. Most importantly, individuals like Lasith (pictured with volunteer Michelle), can access home visits free of charge – removing any financial barriers at a vulnerable and challenging time of life.
