Volunteer Training

To uphold high quality standards of care, Pilgrims Hospice Volunteers must complete the foundational 26 hour Hospice Care Training series to be placed in client care roles.

Hospice Care Training is offered twice each year, in March and September, and volunteer applicants are invited to register ($60 registration fee – includes all materials) after successfully completing an interview, reference checks, police record and child welfare checks. Our training modules cover topics that will aid in a positive volunteer experience: Hospice Orientation, Communication, Relationships of Care, Pain & Symptom Management, Physical Care, Grief & Loss, Spirituality, and Self Care.

We do accept general public registrants for special interest, if space permits, please contact Debbie Nessel, Volunteer Services Manager, for more information. 780 413 9801 ext 303.

Individuals wishing to be involved in the support roles at hospice, such as: special events, kitchen/cook assistant, reception, & volunteer client driver, will need to attend a 3 hour Hospice Orientation.

New to Pilgrims Hospice is the Advanced Soul Doula Training ($20 registration fee). This 8 hour training is offered to those who have successfully completed the standard Hospice Care Training, and is a requirement for those who have been accepted as a Compassionate Companions Volunteer. This training is NOT open for general interest registration.
